Partnering with a MSP to Provide Network Installation
Universal Fiber Optics collaborates closely with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and IT consultants nationwide, extending their services to clients in the Las Vegas, NV region.
Our expert network installation services in Las Vegas keep the clients of MSPs happy and satisfied. In this brand-new cabling installation project, we installed an entirely new IDF providing connectivity throughout the office facility.
For this specific project, Universal Fiber Optics worked with the Blue Fox Group out of Arizona, though their company is based outside of Nevada State, we were able to work closely with the team to ensure the (end-user) customer’s technology needs were met.Â
Once we were given the network specifications of the project, our estimating team was able to submit a quote within 24 hours. We understand that projects need to meet deadlines, our experience servicing clients over the years has helped us understand how to more efficiently estimate projects and do so in a time-sensitive manner. This streamlined estimation process helps us to be efficient and accurate in our bidding process. This saves the MSP and the customer time and money at the end of the project.
The MSP put us directly in contact with the general contractor – we take that responsibility and relationship seriously. Because we are representing another company, and being the “boots on the ground”, we make sure our team is following the most appropriate network installation standards and professionalism. In fact: it’s part of our culture to improve training and understanding for our technicians and to give them the resources to perform at the highest level. We want to ensure no matter what job we take on, we have a team that can bring the right result to the project. We are striving to be the most capable team in Nevada for network cabling installation.

Network Cabling for the IDF
Universal Fiber Optics understands networking, we aren’t just low-voltage installers. The best practice for network topology is to have the MDF (main distribution frame) as the core of the network and multiple IDFs (intermediate distribution frames) connecting back to the MDF. In some smaller facilities, the MDF and IDF are combined. In construction projects like this smaller, newer facility, we strive to make our installation as clean as possible. Having a strong, easily laid out foundation from a networking perspective is the key to keeping a network tidy and easy to use, to improve serviceability in the future.
We installed new Cat6E cabling (UTP, 600Mhz, 23 AWG, Solid Bare Copper) from the IDF to each of the 14 data drop locations indicated on the blueprint with 2 drops each. In total we ran 28 data drops, connecting directly back to the IDF/switching equipment and terminated on a new 48-port customer-provided Cat6E patch panel. These infrastructure components were installed in the customer-provided 12RU wall-mount rack

Finishing off the network infrastructure installation
After running the cable to the designated locations, the far side of the cable needed to be completed. We terminated the office side with white Cat6 keystone jacks and provided and installed 2-port white face-plates in the walls.
Additionally, we Installed five (5) new in-ceiling drops for cameras and three (3) new in-ceiling drops for wireless access points. Included installation and mounting of customer-provided 12RU rack and patch panel. All network drops were labeled on both sides and tested/certified.
After the installation was completed, we sent a report to the MSP explaining what was installed. Confirmation of installation is always a good way to ensure peace of mind. This is especially true when a contractor is representing an MSP at a physical facility. As a low-voltage contractor, we understand the amount of trust that MSPs put into us and we don’t take it lightly. We try our best to be efficient and to provide robust, to-the-point documentation to help all stakeholders utilize the network.
In the case of the MSP, they need to understand endpoints and configure monitoring and controls for the processes already in place, and for designing new protocols. When they understand the network, it saves time and presents a more efficient workflow for day-to-day operations. We consider our documentation and hand-off procedures to be best in class for the network installation industry.
